Hi!

I am an American currently on a Work and Holiday Visa (462) in Australia.

I would like to extend my stay here (either with the option of being able to work or not) and I'm wondering what visa I can apply for.

I've heard I may have to leave the country to apply and also that I'd only be able to apply for 3 month periods at a time.

Thanks for your e-mail.

I would like to emphasize that I am not an immigration officer.

However I did some digging and found the following:

The 462 Work and Holiday Visas entitle you to
remain in Australia for a period of 12 months. Unlike 417 Working Holiday Visa you are not entitled to apply for a second working holiday visa.

Therefore it is recommended that you consult with a professional immigration officer/company that is familiar with the Australian immigration law.

416 vs 462 visa

Hi,

The easiest way to get another visa is:

1. Fly back to the US and apply for a 416 special visa through bunac.com. This will take about 2 months to process and the visa will let you return to work for up to 4 months (you can even reapply for a 416 visa up to 3 times, but would have to come back to the US every time you apply).
2. Employer Sponsored (457) Business Visa
3. Marry someone.
