Work Permit for Jamaica

by Tim
(Canada)

I intend to move to Jamaica within the next year.

Can you recommend how I should go about looking for a job, and what I need to do to get a work permit.

I am a senior executive in business management, is there a recruiter who specializes in this type of work.

I'm in my mid 40's and will be moving down by myself

Thank you
Tim

Work Permit for Jamaica
by: Sharon - Expats Guide

Hi Tim

Thanks for your inquiry

Please note that I am not an immigration officer

As a general rule expats looking for jobs in Jamaica are required to obtain a work permit. Information about how to apply for a work visa to Jamaica can be found in here

Finding a job in Jamaica in not easy as most work goes to the Jamaicans first because of the unemployment rate.

I would suggest that instead of searching for a job in Jamaica start by looking into international companies. Search and find out which international companies are operating in Jamaica and see if they are hiring.

It is much easier to obtain a work visa to Jamaica if you are hired by an International company, as usually you are not jeopardizing the work market of the locals.

Another thing you can try (if you are willing to compromise) is to volunteer in Jamaica. Just google "volunteer in Jamaica" and you will get lots of interesting volunteering opportunities. You can look them out and see if there is something suitable for you.

Please do keep us updated about your progress

Good Luck
Sharon
