Which is a better visa for spouse of a student in Canada? Student Visa for spouse? or Dependent visa for Spouse?

Dear Sharon,

Hope u doing great! Great to have people like you rendering their invaluable services over the net.

My wife has gone on a student visa last year (May 2010)to Canada from India. She has finished her studies in Dec 2010 and has got a good job recently and started working. She has applied for graduate work permit, which she is eligible for 1 year as per canadian rules. Hence she is currently working and intends to apply for a PR soon.

I reside in India and now I am planning to join her in Canada, under student category. So am applying for student visa under SPP (Student Partnership Program) India.

I have heard from others that applying under "dependent spouse visa" category is risky because of high rejection rate, hence I am applying under student SPP category.

Can you please help me out in knowing, what the chances are in getting my visa accepted? Would, my wife being in Canada and working, be a positive point Or a negative point from a student visa perspective? (I know it's a negative point for prospective students to have brother/sister/father/mother/close relatives in a country where he/she is applying, because the visa officer will feel that the prospective student would find it easy to settle down after completing his/her studies, hence they reject these kind of students. But in my case, I feel it's different. It's my wife, who is there..). Please advise me on the above matter.

If it it is a negative point?, should I apply under dependent spouse visa instead of student visa?

Kindly Kindly advise me, as I am very tense...

Many thanks in advance to you....

Vijay

Dear Vijay

Thanks for your inwuiry and for your kind words.

I am not an immigration officer and therefore can not advice you which is better and how to apply.

However I would suggest that you read what citizenship and immigration Canada published about dual intent visa application in here.

Best of Luck
Sharon
