Visa for Accompanying Spouse to Canada

by Gabriel

Hi Sharon

I applied for a student visa to Canada and included my wife in the application.

I got my visa and I think my wife is supposed to get a letter of authorization because she doesn't require an entry visa.

Is there a chance that she is included in my visa?

Does my visa automatically allow her to come into Canada?

Thanks, Gabriel

Visa for Accompanying Spouse to Canada
by: Sharon - Expats Guide

Hi Gabriel

Thanks for your inquiry. Please note that I am not an immigration officer.

If your application for studying in Canada was approved, you most probably received a letter of introduction confirming the approval. This letter IS NOT your study visa.

If you included your wife in your Canadian visa application she might be included in the letter of introduction.

When you arrive in Canada, you must show the following documents to the Canadian Immigration Officer at the port of entry:

  1. a valid passport or travel document.

  2. the letter of introduction from the visa office that you received when your study permit was approved (this letter contains your permit reference number and the officer needs this letter to issue your study permit).

  3. a valid temporary resident visa - (if required). I understand that your spouse is exempt from an entry visa.

  4. a copy of the letter of acceptance from the school at which you are permitted to study

  5. proof that you have enough money to support yourself and your wife during your stay in Canada.

  6. letters of reference or any other documents recommended by the visa office where you applied.

The Canadian immigration officer will check your documents and determine whether you and your spouse may enter Canada and how long you may stay. You will be issued a study permit at this time.

If you are still not sure regarding your spouse status, then I would suggest that you call the Embassy of Canada where you applied for a study permit, and verify it with them.

Good Luck
Sharon
