Student Visa Canada + Spouse

by Namrata Dugar
(Delhi, India)

Hi Sharon,

My husband got admission in Manitoba, Canada in University of Winnipeg for BBA which would be a 4-year course. As a spouse, if I am pregnant am I eligible to accompany him to Canada?

Please suggest the possible ways we both can reach Canada.

Thank you
Namrata

Dear Namrata Dugar

Thanks for your inquiry (please note that I am not an immigration officer)

In general if you wish accompany your spouse to Canada or to join him at a later date you will have to fill out your own temporary residence application (visitor, student or worker).

However, you may send your application forms in the same envelope with your spouse application and with only one payment receipt for the total amount.

Your spouse must provide proof that he is able to support you and your unborn child while studying in Canada

Such evidence may include:

  1. Proof of a Canadian bank account, if money has been transferred there.

  2. Bank statements for the past four months

  3. Proof of payment of tuition and residence fees, and

  4. Proof of funding paid from within Canada for students with a scholarship or enrolled in a Canadian-funded educational program.

Your application will undergo a detailed review by an officer. The officer will assess all the information (including the fact that you are pregnant) and documentation you have provided, and determine if an interview is necessary. If so, he will send you a letter specifying date, time and place of the interview.

If your application is refused, your passport and documents will be returned to you with an explanation on why your application was refused.

If your application is approved, you will receive a letter of introduction confirming the approval.

Best of Luck
Sharon
