Student Visa Application to Canada – Delay in Processing the Visa

by Mehdi Ali
(India)

I have applied for a student visa on 15th October...

As per the website commitment the process will takes minimum of seven business to maximum 28 business days which is 42 days including Saturdays and Sundays.

More than 90 days have passed but there is no response from the Canadian High Commission. I tried to contact them a couple of times through email. I received a response that the profile is still under research and review.

I am not sure what kind of research and review they are doing for which it is taking time for them.

Kindly suggest me what should I do for approach them and ask for the visa status.

Thanks
Ali

Student Visa Application to Canada ? Delay in Processing the Visa
by: Sharon - Expats Guide

Hi Ali

Thanks for your inquiry.

Let me first emphasize that I am not an immigration officer.

You haven't mentioned where and how you submitted the Canadian student visa application- At the Canadian High Commission, at one of the visa application centers (VFS), via mail, in person? All this is important in order to calculate the exact processing time.

If you have submitted the application at any of the Canada Visa Application Centers in India you may check the status of your application here.

Statistical information about the actual processing times for Canada study permit applications can be found in here.

While the time frames indicated at the link above apply in the majority of cases, for a variety of reasons some applications may take longer to process than others. Further, the processing times indicated at the link above do NOT include transit time from VFS to the visa office and back which require one additional day on either end.

Your case is probably one of those that take a little longer to process. You will most probably get a response from the Canadian High Commission soon.

Good Luck
Sharon
