Student Spouse Visa for Canada
by: Sharon - Expats Guide

Dear Manjinder Kaur Sahota

Thanks for your inquiry (Please note that I am not an immigration officer)

According to Canada Citizen and Immigration - If you wish your spouse to accompany you to Canada or to join you at a later date, you must provide proof that you will be able to support her.

You will require approximately $10,000 Canadian per year, not including tuition fees, to cover your living expenses. If your spouse is planning to accompany or join you, you will require an additional $4,000 in addition to return airfare.

Evidences that you can support yourself and your spouse while you study in Canada may include:

  • Proof of a Canadian bank account in your name if money has been transferred to Canada

  • Your bank statements for the past four months

  • A bank draft in convertible currency

  • Proof of payment of tuition and residence fees

  • If you have a scholarship or you are funded by a Canadian educational program you should provide a proof of funding paid from within Canada.

  • If foreign exchange control measures exist in your country, you must provide proof that you will be permitted by the exchange control authorities of your country to export funds for all of your expenses.

Other than that - your spouse must meet all the requirements for temporary resident in Canada. She must satisfy an officer that she is a genuine temporary resident who will be in Canada for a temporary stay.

Your spouse may also be required to provide evidence that she is a law abiding and has no criminal record.

You should include your spouse on your application. Please note that you may be required to provide a marriage certificate

Best of Luck
Sharon
