Hi Sharon

If a caregiver is living in canada for over a year and she has to change jobs because of various reason but her permit is still valid and the visa is going to expire within a few months how can the caregiver get an extension on her visa. because she would love to have it in case of an emergency happens for her to go home.

Renewing Caregiving Visa in Canada
by: Sharon - Expats Guide

Hi Loretta

Thanks for your inquiry. Please note that I am not an immigration officer

Before your caregiver leave her current job she should receive from you a record of any overtime hours she worked, and a record of employment (ROE). The ROE indicates: her reason for leaving, hours worked, gross earnings, any money paid or payable at the time she left her job.

Before your caregiver begins working for someone else, she must apply for a new work permit, at least 30 days before the expiry date of her work permit. She can only work for the employer whose name is on her work permit. She may not remain in Canada after her work permit expires unless she has applied for a new work permit in Canada.

With Her application for a new work permit, she must submit: a copy of a positive Labour Market Opinion (LMO) that her new future employer has obtained, and a signed employment contract with her new employer.

If she is changing jobs and her new future employer has not yet sent her the required documentation, she must: send her application to renew her work permit, and send a letter of explanation, at least 30 days before the expiry date of her current work permit, to the address below:

Case Processing Centre
Unit 202
Vegreville, Alberta
T9C 1X5

Her temporary status as a worker will continue under the same conditions, until her application is processed and she has been notified of the decision.

Good Luck
Sharon
