Renewing a Canadian Work Visa for Live-In Caregiver

by rose
(Hong Kong)

Hi Sharon good day!

Can I renew my Canadian Live-In Caregiver Visa? And how long does it take? Do I need to provide again the requirements that I sent before?

What happened is like this - Last year I applied for a nanny in Canada. I got my visa On October 2008 in Hong Kong. But because of emergency, and also because my employer backed out I didn't go to Canada.

Can you advice me because I am planning to apply again in Canada?

Thanks Rose

Renewing a Canadian Work Visa for Live-In Caregiver
by: Sharon - Expats Guide

Hi Rose

Thanks for your inquiry.

Before I answer I must emphasize that I am not an immigration officer.

If your previous employer has backed out you will need to find a new employer in Canada.

The new employer must apply to Human Resources and Social Development Canada (HRSDC) to have their suggested job offer reviewed and to receive a positive job confirmation letter from HRSDC before hiring you. You will need to present a copy of the confirmation letter when you apply for a work permit, together with a written contract between you and your future employer.

Only after you find a new employer who is approved by HRSDC and only after you have a written contract you can reapply for a Canadian Live-In Caregiver work visa.

Other than that you have to meet the following requirements to be eligible for the Live-In Caregiver Program in Canada:

  • Successful completion of Canadian secondary school education.

  • At least six months training, or at least one year of full-time paid work experience in the past three years.
  • Good knowledge of English or French.

  • A work permit before you enter Canada.

More information can be found in here.

As to how long it takes - It depends on how long it takes for you to find a new employer, and how long it will take for your employer to receive a positive job confirmation letter from HRSDC.

Important Tip: Make sure to check if you are eligible to receive a medical care in Canada. Should you need to arrange for a medical coverage, you can start by checking the following expatriate health insurance companies:

Global Medical Insurance.

MultiNational Underwriters .

Good Luck
Sharon
