Reflection of a Third Culture Kid

by Kathy

Yeah.

This video hits the nail on the head.

I was a Missionary Kid for the most of my childhood, living in 4 different countries.

Even now at 46 years of age I still have trouble letting people close to me..like I've developed a protective mechanism. And I've heard similar stories from other MKs

Thank You....:)

It is a strange kind of withdrawal, if not out 'n out isolating, lonely of a different kind. Our TCKS were nine and ten when they ended up Here to live 24/7. I know hands on experience of the impact of that on them, on their folks, on the lot of us as Family. We're not a holier than thou lot, it's just life called us to live as we have, eh? :) As kids, you went where your folks took you. The lot of us have learned a lot about, for example, racial profiling, insights I highly doubt we'd have gleaned had we not been called to live the life we have, that of course involved our two TCKS. :) I'm glad you reached out. I'm glad I found this site, you too. I'm glad for this relief that helps me feel less alone than I/we have. Our TCKS aren't fussy about their history as in the same breath they also embrace it. :) Both refer to Jeddah as their hometown. :) Stay in touch, please keep sharing...thank-you.
