Nursing in Australia - Requirements and Sponsring Jobs

by La Fayette
(Davao City, Philippines)

Hi Sharon

I am a Philippine Registered Nurse.

I know that I have to complete a 1 year hospital training and to pass the IELTS before working in Australia.

What if i'll work as a Licensed Practical Nurse? Will I have to undergo same exam like the qualified length of training? and can you help me find a sponsor to help me in my exam fees, document processing fees like visas, and training fees to be done in Australia?

Thanks for your assistance
La Fayette

Nursing in Australia
by: Sharon - Expats Guide

Hi La Fayette

Thanks for your inquiry (Please note that I am not an immigration officer)

The best way to learn how to immigrate to Australia is to learn from those who have done the journey before.

Emma Bates a U.K nurse who has moved to Australia is one of the best sources for information and knowledge.

Emma co-produced an orientation CD for overseas nurses migrating to Australia. She teaches nursing students and has written research papers about overseas nurses migrating to the country and manages a website and forums for nurses newly arrived down under.

In her excellent e-book Nursing In Australia-A Guide To Working & Living As A Nurse Down Under Emma is taking you step by step through the processes you need to go through to get your registration, your visa and a job.

The guide also has tips on relocating down under and settling in Australia. It's user friendly and is laid out in three parts:

First part includes the preparation you need to do, how much it will cost, where to live, visas, who are the employers, finding the right job and interviewing and CV writing tips (from an HR expert).

Second part is a comprehensive section on nursing in Australia, and it looks at the different types of nursing roles, what you'll be expected to do, and the skills you'll be expected to have.

Third part contains general information on living in Australia and gives you the information you most need when you arrive, including useful 'to do' checklists like getting your accommodation, banking and much more.

Best of Luck
