Dear Sharon,

I am a Trinidadian student studying in Canada, currently doing a BA. I am intending to change my name. This can be done quite easily in my country with a deed poll, and my university has no trouble with the shift and will readily make me a new student ID.

However, you say that "If you wish to change terms and conditions on the Canadian student visa, you must submit a completed visa application to change conditions or extend your stay in Canada."

Does a name change constitute a change in terms and conditions? How do I change my name on my student visa?

Thanks for your inquiry (please note that I am not an immigration officer).

In order to change your name on your Canadian student visa you would need to contact the Canadian case processing center which handles your Canadian student visa file, and advice them about the name change.

You would most probably need to provide to the CPC office an evidence of a name change from your country. I assume you can check how to do this through the consular section of your embassy in Canada.
