My Wife Applied for OWP as dependent to my Canadian Student Visa, Expected Query From Canadian Embassy?

by Sumanth Shruthi

Hi Sharon,

I and my wife applied for Student Visa and Open Work Permit Visa respectively to Saskatchewan province Canada from New Delhi India high commission. I got the Student Visa but for my wife they had asked for medicals to be done. She did her medicals and sent the passport and Med report last week.

I want to know what are the chances of her not getting the visa under the circumstances, because I want to be prepared for the next steps.

The documents submitted are :
1) 65000 CAD funds (25000 CAD Joint Savings, 20000 CAD Educational Loan, 20000 CAD Sponsor by Father in Law)
2) Marriage certificate (Married for more than 2 years now)
3) 3 Years experience certificate of my wife and IT Returns
4) Property documents, we both are joint owners
5) Medicals Report

Kindly let me know if in worst case scenario the visa is not given, what steps we might have to take? In your experience what are the chances of getting the visa?

Thank you,
Sumanth Shruthi

Medical Examninations for a Canadian Work Visa
by: Sharon - Expats Guide

Dear Sumanth Shruthi

Thanks for your inquiry (please note that I am not an immigration officer).

One of the Requirements for a Canadian work permit is to be in good health and complete a medical examination, if required.

At the following link you can more information about the medical examination and a list of occupations that requires medical examinations .

This is probably why your spouse was requested to submit medical reports.

According to Canada citizenship and immigration "A medical examination and assessment will require some time and may add over three months to the processing of your application, if not submitted up front. The officer?s decision is based on the type of job you will have and where you lived in the past year."

You have mentioned that your wife submitted her medicals report to the Canadian Embassy only last week, so it will take a while until you hear back from the Embassy regarding the status of her application (unless they will need some more information from you).

The decision is up to the immigration officer and each case get judged individually, so I do not know what are the chances of her getting a Canadian work visa.

Best of Luck
Sharon

Hi Sharon,

Thank you for posting my concern in the website and for your comments.

I came to know that the initial submission of passport to the embassy does not count to the processing time, since we have submitted the passport and medical reports last week, the days will be counted from last week itself. I was not aware of this, I was counting from the day we both submitted our application which was 2 weeks earlier, so was worried.

Thanks,
SumanthShruthi
