My Fiancé Applied For a Study Permit to Canada, Can I Join Him?

Hi Sharon

My fiancé just applied for study permit, he was admitted by Centennial college in Toronto for a 2 year certificate program as social service worker.

We are getting married this summer and I am wondering if after we get married and considering he gets approved by immigration I would be able to apply to go with him if so can I get work permit?

I would appreciate your answer.

Thanks for your inquiry. Please note that I am not an immigration officer.
In General, a spouse of a student visa holder may accompany him to Canada or join him at a later date.

Usually the applicant for the study permit should include the spouse in the application and he may be required to provide a marriage certificate.

Although you are not married yet, I suggest that your fiancé will indicate on his Canadian student visa application that he is planning on getting married this summer, and that you are planning on joining him in Canada.

As regards to work permit in Canada - According to citizenship and immigration Canada "spouses of full-time students at publicly funded or degree/diploma granting institutions can apply for an open work permit".
