My Canadian Visa Expiration Date

Hi Sharon,

I am a student in Vancouver and my Canadian visa says expiry date is 10/01/2011.

I came to Canada on the 1st January 2011 so I do not know if I should be worried about this.

My study permit expires December 2012.

Thanks for your inquiry (please note that I am not an immigration officer).

According to Canada Citizenship and Immigration

"The expiry date on the top line of the visa is the date by which you must arrive in Canada, not the date by which you must leave Canada."

In your case you should have entered Canada before the 10 of January 2011, which is what you did.

Upon your arrival in Canada, the immigration officer at the port of entry should have let you know how long you can stay in Canada.

Your passport might have been stamped to indicate the duration. If it says December 2012 then you shouldn't be worried.
