Hi Tiger

Thanks for your e-mail. You are asking a very important question and it is a great idea to investigate thoroughly before reaching a decision.

I can offer you a few tips:

You mentioned that you are planning on relocating to one of Central America's countries. So start by listing all the countries that interest you.

Now you know how much you are earning today. If you are planning to work remotely then you already know more or less what will be your income.

So search for websites that offers international cost of living calculators where you can find out some more information about the cost of living in each country. Three good websites that offer this information and that can provide a good starting points are

www.mercer.com

www.salaryexpert.com And
www.xpatulator.com

After you narrow the list of countries you will have to find out what are the passport, visa and work residence permits for each of the countries. The best way to find this information is to go to the immigration and citizenship websites of each country.

I believe this will narrow your countries list even more. Now you will have to do a deeper search - Search for information about the country's economy, banking, politics, policy, education (if you move with kids), weather, and everything else that is important and that can influence your life.

Two very important issues that you must investigate before relocating overseas are - Overseas health Insurance and your US expatriate tax obligations and exclusions.

If you are not eligible to receive any healthcare at the Central America country you will be moving to then it is strongly recommended that you check with overseas health insurance companies for health coverage options.

I can recommend you a very well known international health insurance company
http://www.mnui.com

Other than that - As an American expatriates you must pay taxes to the U.S.A, and you will be entitled for tax exclusions.
Expat CFO US tax experts can provide you more information.

I hope this serve as a good starting point.

Good Luck
Sharon
