Hi Sharon

At present I live in G.B.

I worked in Canada for 30+years. My income is from Canadian Teaching Pension plus OAS & CPP.

I, at present pay Income Tax in G.B.

I am contemplating moving permanently to France in the near future.

Could you clarify my tax position if I do move to France.

Dear Denis

Thanks for your inquiry (please note that I am not a expat tax expert).

I would suggest that you contact an expatriate tax professional who can ensure all of your income tax requirements are met.

Having said that, I assumed that all your income comes from Canada and that you do not have any income from the U.K. In addition you are considering becoming a non-resident in the UK

Based on the above I have done some research and came up with the following information that might give you a start

  1. There is a double taxation agreement between Canada and France

  2. There is a double taxation agreement between the U.K and France

  3. Canada Revenue Agency offers international telephone services regarding tax matters.

  4. Residents and non-residents Liability to tax in the United Kingdom publication

  5. You can consult HMRC Residency at PO Box 46, Fitz Roy House, Nottingham NG2 1BD (telephone 0845 070 0040)
