How to Obtain a Police Clearance to Canada?

by Hermie
(Singapore)

Hi Ms. Sharon,

I would like to know the procedures in requesting a police clearance to Canada.

I worked in Qatar and Saudi Arabia as a contract worker from Philippines and presently I am working in Singapore.

I already received my Provincial Nominations Letter from Saskatchewan, Canada and submitted it to the Canadian Embassy in Manila and they requires police clearance certificates for my application for Permanent Resident Card, although I have not received any confirmations from embassy.

Can you please provide me the details in obtaining the police certificates to Canada?

Thank you for your time.

Regards,

Hermie

How to Obtain a Police Cleareance to Canada?
by: Sharon - Expats Guide

Hi Hermie

Thanks for your inquiry.

First let me emphasize that I am not an immigration officer. However, I used to work at the consular department of our embassy in Canada.

Canada immigration requests that you provide a police certificate clearance from each country where you have lived for six months or longer since reaching 18 years of age in the past 10 years. Police certificates must be originals and issued within the last three months.

It is your responsibility to obtain police certificates from each country. In most cases the embassies of the countries where you have lived in are able to assist you.

In your case you will probably need to request police certificates from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines and Singapore.

You stated that you are living in Singapore at the moment therefore you can ask for a police certificate directly from the police authorities in Singapore.

As for Qatar, The Philippines and Saudi Arabia - Call the embassies of those countries in Singapore and find out if you can apply for a police certificate through them.

If they agree, you might be asked to pay a processing fee and to provide additional information or documentation such as photographs, or details of your addresses and periods of residence in that country. In addition you might need to provide a letter from Canadian immigration authorities confirming that you must obtain evidence of no criminal record as part of the processing of your application.

I hope this help :)

Good Luck
Sharon
