How long for dependent visa to Canada?

Your blog has been fabulous and I am delighted to get your responses and exact answers to the questions. Thank you for such a lovely blog.

My wife is applying for student permit for Canada. We are planning to apply for the visa together from UK though we are Indian citizen. I am on post study work visa here in UK. Due to my work schedule and bond with the agreement of job, I will not be able to leave my job before January.

We are planning to apply together now for September 2011 session and my wife will leave to Canada on August last week.

If we both get visa and if that one is multiple entry will I be able to go on Dec-January?

Could you please tell within what period of time will I have to enter Canada once I get the dependent visa.

Is it compulsory that if we apply together we need to go together?
