Hi,

My girlfriend and I have recently moved to Canada from Australia on a 2 year work visa and have been lucky enough to get job’s as lefties on Whistler Blackcomb Mountain and I am trying to work out what to do about health insurance.

We need to be covered but the information regarding our situation is extremely hard to get out of the insurance company’s and very ague.

I am hoping you may be able to shed some light on the situation or point me in the direction of someone who can help us.

I hope you and your girlfriend are enjoying Canada. I love Canada and enjoyed very much living there.

As for your question - I am not an immigration officer but I did some searching and found the following -

As per citizenship and immigration Canada - Your employer is responsible for making sure you are covered by medical and health insurance and workers compensation.

Other than that each province in Canada has an office which is responsible for labour or employment standards. This office can provide information for people who have a temporary work visa in Canada.

In case you find out that you need to purchase your own health insurance, you can check your options with Global Medical Insurance.
