Dear Sharon

I am in a great need of your help.

I am a helpless mother who applied for student visa TV 574 with family.

My eldest son suffering with cerebral palsy (mentally and physically retarded could not clear medical. So case officer asked me to withdraw my son from application, otherwise he will get refusal letter on medical base.

I requested a lot again and again but all in vain. At last I have to exclude my son from my application. Yesterday I received mine and all family member dependent student visas.

Now please guide me for other visa options for my son. I cannot leave him here alone. Please help me Can I get medical treatment visa for him? Can your firm arrange any medical consultancy for my son there in Australia?

I have won IPRS for PhD from two universities (Sydney University and Griffith University) but now finding it very hard to avail it. For a mother it is very hard to live away from her family in Australia 4 years for PhD, whose baby is ill. I want to bring my family and son with me.

My commencing date is 15 September. I want to arrange some other visa for my son in this time.

Please guide me.

Regards
Sara

Getting Australian Visa for a Disable Child

Hi Sara

Thanks for your inquiry (Please note that I am not an immigration officer).

Australia Citizenship and Immigration do offer a medical treatment visa, but I am not sure if your son is eligible for this visa. I would therefore suggest that you contact citizenship and immigration Australia and check with them what are your options and what type of visa would be suitable for your son.

In addition please note that according to Australia Immigration and Citizenship Department, applicants for TV 574 Australian visa must declare all family members on their application, even if they do not plan to travel with you to Australia. If not they will not be eligible to come as dependants after you have arrived in Australia.

You must also provide proof of your relationship to them, in the form of officially issued birth and marriage certificates.

Your dependant family members must meet a few requirements to be eligible for this visa. One of them is have health insurance while in Australia.

As an International student in Australia you can include them in your Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) which is a health insurance that assists international students and their dependents meet the costs of medical and hospital care which they may need while in Australia. OSHC also includes ambulance cover and limited pharmaceuticals.

For more information, see the OSHC Frequently Asked Questions Page

Please note that some services are not covered by the OSHC insurance like treatment during the first 12 months of membership for pre-existing medical conditions or disabilities.

This means that you might need to find private overseas health insurance companies that will cover your son?s condition. One of the following international insurance companies might be able to assist you:

International Health Insurance – Aetna Global Benefits

And

MultiNational Underwriters overseas medical coverage.

Good Luck
Sharon
