gap year ideas

by Tom N.

I think it would be great to take a year off between high school and college to go live in another country for a year.

What ways can you think of that might be possible?

P.S. If it helps, the country I'm thinking of is Ireland.

Gap Year Ideas

Hi Tom

I agree with you. To take a year off between high school and college is a great idea, and can be done quite easily.

You can travel on a working-holiday visa.

This means that you can travel in the country and are allowed to work legally in order to provide for yourself. The type of work you are allowed to do is specified in your visa

You did not mention from what country you are but you said you are interested in Ireland, so I looked it up and If you are from Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan and New Zealand you can apply for a working holiday visa in Ireland.

For more information about a working holiday visa to Ireland you can go to Ireland Department of Foreign Affairs website.

If Ireland does not allow a working holiday visa for your country, then all you need to do is choose another country, go to their visa section look up for a working holiday visa and see if your country is on the list.

Another thing you can do is look for gap year ideas. There are many gap year websites that provide great suggestions.

Good Luck

Gap Year
by: Anonymous

There are many good websites out there which can help people plan their gap year including www.firstgapyear.com

It can be daunting planning a solo gap year where you have to travel by yourself and organise everything but thousands of men and women have managed this without any problems and have benefitted from the experience.
