Finance for studying in Canada

by Mony
(Pakistan)

Hi Sharon,

You are doing a very good work keep it up.

I am Mony from Pakistan.

I am going to apply for a study permit to Canada for Jan 2012.

My course duration is 3 years.

I have $32,500 Canadian in my account.

My annual tuition fee is $12,000 Canadian.

I want to know if the money I have in my account is enough or do I need more.

My brother is a PR in Canada. He sent me a notarize letter which says that he will fund my education expenses and that he is responsible for my accommodation.

He also sent me a letter from his work.

Does this work for me or not?

Please guide me.

Thanks a lot for your kind information.

Mony

Dear Monny

Thanks for your inquiry (please note that I am not an immigration officer)

According to Citizenship and Immigration Canada guidelines, you will require approximately $10,000 Canadian per year, not including tuition fees, to cover your living expenses.

So for 3 years you will need - $30,000 Canadian for living expenses + $36,000 Canadian for tuition + flight tickets. All together can come to around $70,0000 Canadian

You indicated that your brother who is a PR in Canada can support you during your studies.

You should therefore present to the Canadian embassy a letter which indicates his occupation and relationship to you, the number of dependents he has in his house and his full contact details.

You should also provide a letter from your brother's employer clearly indicating his employer contact details and full street address of business location.

According to the details you provided in your inquiry, you already have these letters with you.

So in terms of paper work I believe that you are covered.

However, it is up to the Canadian immigration officer to decide if the amount you have in your bank account + your brother's sponsorship is enough for funding your studies and living expenses while you are in Canada.

Best of Luck
Sharon
