Canada Student Visa

by Alaeddin
(Libya)

I would like to inquire about a certain situation for some people.

If someone visits Canada as a visitor and then he decides to study in Canada, Can he obtain a study permit while he is in Canada ?

Thank you

Changing a visitor visa to a student visa
by: Sharon - Expats Guide

Thanks for your e-mail

I looked up your question and found that yes you
can request a study permit while you are in Canada on a visitor visa

Please see hereunder from Canada immigration website:

Most visitors are allowed to stay in Canada for no more than six months but If you decide you want to stay longer, you can apply for an extension. You must send your application to extend your stay at least 30 days before your Temporary Resident Visa expires.

You must apply to extend your stay if you want to:

  • visit, study or work longer in Canada

  • change the type of your permit (for
example, from studying to working in Canada),or

  • change the conditions of your stay (for example, if you are studying or working in Canada, and you want to change
    schools or jobs).

In any case - To change your status from visitor to student, You must have been accepted by a school, college, university or other educational institution in Canada.

More information can be found at Canada immigration website :cic.gc.ca
