Canada Student Visa Validity
by: Sharon - Expats Guide

Hi Kshitij

Thanks for your inquiry

First I would like to emphasize that I am not an immigration officer.

I did some searching and found out the following information:

Before you can apply for a student visa you must be accepted as a full time student by the educational institution in Canada.

After your acceptance you can apply for visa through one of the nine Canadian VFS Visa Application Centers

To increase your chances of obtaining a Canadian student visa it is strongly recommended that you take an IELTS test if you intend to study in English. This is because you will need to satisfy a Canadian visa officer that you will follow the conditions of your admission to Canada and will depart Canada at the end of your study permit. A proven ability to communicate in English will assist the officer in making that determination.

If you wish to prepare thoroughly for the IELTS exam you can use the IETLS test study guide. This excellent guide will teach you step by step how to pass successfully the IELTS test.

If your visa is approved you will usually be allowed to stay in Canada until you complete your studies.

You may even change your school, level, program and field of studies without applying for a new study permit.

But, if your Canadian student visa has expired and you want to extend your stay in Canada as a student, you must complete the application to change conditions or extend your stay in Canada. at least 30 days before your current Canadian study permit expires.

If you apply for a renewal of your study permit, and the permit expires before you receive an answer, you can continue to study in Canada under the same conditions until you receive a decision.

Important tip: The government of Canada does not pay for the medical costs of foreign students. Health coverage for foreign students varies between provinces. Contact the school at which you are applying to receive more information about medical coverage and health insurance.

You can start by consulting the following expatriates health insurance companies:

Global Medical Insurance.

MultiNational Underwriters .

Good Luck
Sharon

Canada Student Visa and IELTS Exam
by: Sharon - Expats Guide

Hi

Thanks for your inquiry.

In most cases if you are coming to Canada to study English you would not need to apply for a Canadian study permit as most courses last less than 6 months.

You can find more information about this in here where it says the following:

"In some cases, you do not require a study permit to go to school in Canada:

If you wish to study in a short-term course or program - you do not need a study permit if you plan to take a course or program in Canada that lasts six months or less. You must complete the course or program within the period authorized for your stay in Canada.

Even if you do not need a study permit, it is a good idea to apply for a permit before you come to Canada. If you decide that you want to continue your studies in another program after you complete your short-term course or program, you must apply through a Canadian visa office outside Canada for a study permit if you do not already have one."

This means that if you decide you want to continue your studies in Canada in another program, and one of the program requirements would be passing the IELTS exam then you would need to take that test.

Best Of Luck
Sharon
