Canada Student Visa Applications - Tips and Suggestions

by Arun Babu
(Vancouver, Canada )

Hi to all

I applied for a Canadian study permit on December 2010 and received a Student Visa to Canada. I am now studying at the University in Vancouver, BC, Canada

I would like to share my story and to offer some tips for those who worries about Canadian student visa refusal. I hope it will help you

At the beginning I applied for F-1 US visa but got refused 3 times. Then I decided to research and to find out what are the criteria for visa issuance and/or visa refusal.

Basically, there is a difference between USA & Canada and the rest of the world. USA and Canada are the top destinations for international students and immigrants.

Let's talk about Canada – Canada is a country of immigrants. It welcomes immigrants and benefits from their talents, experience and energy. However, if you apply for a study permit and think about it as a way to immigrate to Canada this is where your problems begin!

In many instances applicants tried to abuse the Canadian visa processing system and to immigrate to Canada under a Student visa. Therefore Canada started to look at everyone as an intended immigrant and to check thoroughly all student visa applications.

It is therefore your responsibility to prove that you have no such intention. You can do this by preparing your paper works carefully and filling out the student visa application properly; specify your past education, work experience, financial ability, parent's job, your age, family structure, movements abroad, criminal activity and any important backgrounds information.

All this will help to determine if you are a genuine person, whose intentions are to study in Canada.

Here are some tips and things to consider before filling out the Canadian student visa application:

1. Do not try this if you were an average student in the past.

2. Don't do this for changing education/field.

3. Don't do this if you don't have back-end support.

4. Prefer a longer period of study.

5. Read the application carefully.

6. Make sure you have a proof to show for everything you write.

7. It is better to have some work experience.

8. Selection of university and place is important.

9. Don't wish for a big degree in low cost.

10. Mostly avoid selecting short term courses.

11. Mostly select a university that request a deposit.

12. You should have a bank balance on your name.

13. IELTS score on first attempt is influential. If you wish to prepare thoroughly for the IELTS exam you can use the IETLS test study guide. This excellent guide will teach you step by step how to pass successfully the IELTS test.

14. Be ready to respond after you applied at any time.

If your student visa application to Canada was refused because of immigrant purpose reasons, I am sorry to say this but do not apply again and again and do not waste your time and money.

The world is so big...You can try applying to other countries, or stop and stay where you are.

My advice may help you, however keep in mind that I am not an expert.

I succeeded with my Canadian student visa application, but each case varies. So make sure to think before you apply.

My best wishes for all.
God Bless You !!!
Arun Babu

Canadian student visa refusal
by: ib

I applied for student visa twice and I was refused because of the following same reasons:

1. you have not satisfied me that you will leave canada by the end of the period authorised for your stay.
2.you have not satisfied me that you are a bonafide student.

Is it advisable that i should re-apply again.
I need your advice urgently.

Canadian student visa refusal
by: Sharon - Expats Guide

Dear IB

Thanks for your inquiry (please note that I am not an immigration officer).

According to Canada Citizenship and Immigration -

"If your circumstances have changed appreciably and you believe that it would result in a different decision, you may wish to reapply. If, however, there is no change in your situation, then it is unlikely that your application would result in the issuance of a Study Permit."

proof of funds for Canadian Student Visa
by: Anonymous

Hi Sharon

I am an undergraduate student and I am applying for Canada student visa.

I got admission in Seneca College Toronto for electronic engineering technology - communications co-op, and my ielts score is 6.5.

The problem is my dad has only 6000 CAD in his account after paying 1st semester fees and I am going to stay at my uncle's house .

will this be a problem for my visa?

I was a very good student in my school. I got 80% in 12th grade and I am really going to Canada to study and not to stay there after completing my studies.

Please tell me if I can do something or just wait for my fate.

Canadian Student Visa - Proof of Funds
by: Sharon - Expats Guide

Dear Sir

Thanks for your inquiry (please note that I am not an immigration officer).

According to Canada citizenship and immigration you will require approximately $10,000 Canadian per year, not including tuition fees, to cover your living expenses.

You have mentioned that you will be living at your uncle's house during your studies. Maybe he can be your sponsor.

Best of Luck

Canadian Student Visa and a study gap
by: Manjinder

Hi Sharon,

I have done my bachelors in Electronics and Communication Engineering (total 16 years of Education), passed out in May 2006.

Since then I have been working, and in the last 4 years I have been working with Hewlett Packard Printer Support and RnD team for North America/Canada region.

I am very keen to enroll in advanced Diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology (Program Code: 03511) in Jan 2012 session.

My overall IELTS score is 7.

Kindly let me know if i am eligible for admission, so that I can start with the application process.

I have this question as one of the consultants said that VISA officer won't approve the VISA after gap of more than 3-4 years.

I will be thankful for your assistance.

Regards!
Manjinder
