Canada Live in Caregiver Program

by Elizabeth
(San Borja, Lima, Peru)

Hi Sharon

my name is Elizabeth, I was working in Utah, USA for 6 years as a caregiver,

I came back to Peru on December 2009 because my authorizacion for work had expired. I have good references from my employers.

Please can you tell me how can I apply for the Caregiver program in Toronto Canada? Do I need to contact an agency in Canada to help me find an employer and with the documentation? or Can you suggest another way faster and effective?

Do you think if I came back to the USA thigs will be easier to apply for the caregiver program?

Thank you for your help

Eli

Canada Live in Caregiver Program
by: Sharon - Expats Guide

Hi Elizabeth

Thanks for your inquiry. Please note that I am not an immigration officer.

The first thing you need to do is find an employer in Toronto. You can use an agency but you can also try to find a potential Canadian employer at nannyseek.ca website. The site provides free classified ads from all over Canada. Both the families and the nannies are able to post, search, view and reply too all ads free.

After you find a potential employer and before your employer hire you he must :

  1. apply to Human Resources and Skills Development Canada/Service Canada (HRSDC/SC) to have his or her suggested job offer reviewed; and receive a positive Labour Market Opinion (LMO) fromHRSDC/SC.
You will need a copy of this positive LMO when you apply for a work permit.

  2. A written contract with your future employer, signed by you and your employer. You must submit the signed contract with your work permit application.

  3. You must have successfully completed the equivalent of Canadian high school education (secondary school)

  4. At least six months training or at least one year of full-time paid work experience as a caregiver or in a related field or occupation (including six months with one employer) in the past three years.

  5. Good knowledge of English or French.

  6. A work permit before you enter Canada.

Best of Luck
Sharon
