Can I join my husband who is Studying in Canada?

by Mitra
(Tehran)

Hi All :)

My husband studies in Canada under a student visa for six months.

We got married last week and now I don't know whether I can join him or not,
and I'd like to know how long would it take??

I have 30.000$ in my bank account and a home in my country. Are these enough?

I have another question:

I'm studying medicine in my country and I heard that I cannot transfer to medical school in Canada. So is it possible for me to transfer to something else like pharmacy or psychology?

Thank you all for the answer
Mitra

Can I join my husband who is Studying in Canada?

Hi Mitra

Thanks for your inquiry. Please note that I am not an Immigration Officer

I suggest that you look into the option of applying for a visitor visa to Canada. Most visitors are allowed to stay in Canada for no more than six months but, in some cases, visitors can stay longer.

When applying for a visitor visa make sure to indicate that your spouse is on a student visa in Canada. In addition, you will most probably be required to present a notarized marriage certificate to the Canadian Embassy in Tehran.

More information about how to apply for a visitor visa to Canada for an Iranian citizen can be found in here

The officers at the Embassy of Canada in Tehran will be able to tell you how long it takes to issue a visitor visa to Canada, and if you have enough money to maintain yourself in Canada and to return home.

You can also ask your spouse to check with Canada immigration if he can assist you in this matter.

As for your second question - Transferring to a medical school in Canada

I would suggest that you visit the website of the Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials, where there is a section that provides Information for students educated abroad applying for admission to Canadian Universities and Colleges. On the website you can find information about how to get an assessment of your foreign qualifications.
