The answer to your question depends on what is your residency and citizenship status in Canada.

I would suggest that you search the Canada Revenue Agency. You can start at the page about International and Non-resident Taxes and also at International and non-resident guides .

You can also try reading the book The American in Canada: Real-Life Tax and Financial Insights into Moving and Living in Canada . The book provides information for Americans either contemplating a move or already living in Canada. It answers all the questions necessary to successfully plan the transition, including immigration planning, customs planning, cash management, income tax planning, retirement, wills and estates, risk management, and investments.

Another thing I would like to suggest has to do with your USA taxes - The complexity of your financial world is much greater when you live and work abroad.

Did you know that U.S. Expats are always taxed on world-wide income, and that most U.S. Expats qualify for the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion by meeting the physical presence test?

You are eligible for the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion if you are physically present in a foreign country for 330 full days during a period of 12 consecutive months. The Foreign Earned Income Exclusion is not automatic -- you must file a U.S. Income Tax Return in order to receive it.
